No More Clone Wars, the SSD & Hard Disk Drive Cloning Kit is Here

By Mike Clements, on May 3rd, 2013

When we originally introduced the Corsair Notebook Upgrade kit, we were really impressed with the Apricorn software. In fact, we used the term "chimple" to describe just how easy the kit was to use. It was so simple, a chimp could use it.

Customers related to us that they wanted a software cloning kit like this without having to buy the entire SSD based kit. So, we've created the new Corsair SSD & Hard Disk Drive Cloning Kit which utilizes the same great software but also has an improved USB 3.0 connector.

The kit includes a USB 3.0 to SATA connector and the Corsair Data Migration software CD. The original connector was USB 2.0 but the new connector shown here is USB 3.0. The new connector is much faster than the original allowing up to 180MB/s read and write speeds.

Corsair SSDs With Zero Overprovisioning Space

By Mike Clements, on January 25th, 2013

Much has been written about overprovisioning and its implementation on SSDs. In short, overprovisioning, or OP, is a portion of storage space on an SSD that is reserved for use only by the SSD controller. The three most common uses for this space are wear leveling, the replacement of bad blocks, and read-modify-writes. Overprovisioning serves to help increase both the longevity and performance of SSDs and it is a very common practice among SSD manufacturers.

However, some users would like to be able to buy their SSDs without the built in overprovisioning and make the decision to OP, or not to OP for themselves. They prefer the flexibility of deciding for themselves when to OP and how much space to use based on their specific needs. Corsair has announced and is now offering SSDs without this overprovisioned space.

Building a system with the Graphite Series 600T Silver Edition and Dominator Platinum memory

By Jeff Checchi, on July 6th, 2012

Recently we announced quite a few new products, and updates to current product lines. Some of the most exciting are the new Dominator Platinum DDR3 memory with LED lighting, and the new Graphite Series 600T Silver mid-tower case. What better time to do a system build than when we have two new products that compliment each other so beautifully! We will also be using our brand new Force Series GS SSD with its fast toggle NAND technology, and our recently updated GS800 PSU. While we are at it, I am going to swap out all the stock fans from the 600T with our new Air Series AF120 Quiet Edition fans, and we will be using our SP120 Quiet Edition fans in place of the stock Hydro Series H100 fans. The silver and blue theme turned out great! If you have never built a system before, or you are not familiar with some of our new products from then check out the video below!

Frequently Asked Questions

Top Questions

  • Does Corsair provide firmware updates for SSDs?

You will find download links and firmware update instructions posted in our forum.  Not all drives will have a firmware update and in most cases your drive should have the latest firmware available at the time of production.

    http://forum.corsair.com/v3/forumdisplay.php?f=206

  • What programs can Corsair recommend to test the performance of my Corsair SSD?

AIDA64, ATTO, CrystalDiskMark, HDTune and SiSoft Sandra and are all very good benchmarks of your SSD performance. However, all Corsair SSD specifications are published based on ATTO performance.

  • Do I need to tweak my operating system to get my Corsair SSD drive to run at optimal performance?

No settings within your operating system need to be adjusted for a Corsair SSD drive to run at optimal performance.

  • Will I get the full benefit of having a Corsair SSD drive installed on my machine if it only supports SATA I?

The SATA I spec is slower than most Corsair SSD drives. You would get the best performance from a Corsair SSD drive from a system with SATA II.

  • Are Corsair SSD drives compatible with SATA I?

All Corsair SSD drives are compatible with both SATA I and SATA II.  However, you will only be able to acheive the rated transfer speeds when using the SATA interface that the SSD is designed for.

  • What settings do I need to adjust in my system BIOS for optimal SSD performance?

Enabling AHCI storage mode in your BIOS is the only setting we recommend adjusting for optimal SSD performance.

  • What is TRIM?

The TRIM command is a feature of Windows 7 which allows an SSD to maintain its high level of performance over the lifetime of the drive.  Here is a link which describes TRIM in more detail:

  • What about services or programs in my operating system such as indexing, pre-fetching, write-caching, defrag etc?

Corsair SSDs require no maintenance programs or operating system tweaks.
