The Corsair HX Series Power Supply Refresh: Going for the Gold!
By Mike Clements posted Jun 05th 2012
Back in 2009 when we originally released our HX Series power supplies, we listed in their specifications that they met and exceeded the standards for 80 PLUS® Silver certification. Many reviewers and PSU aficionados quickly discovered that every unit tested and reviewed in this series actually met the standards for 80 PLUS Gold certification.
We knew this of course but we also knew that we could not guarantee that every HX Series PSU that hit the shelves would always meet the 80 PLUS Gold standard to our satisfaction. So, we intentionally chose to apply a conservative rating and list our HX series PSUs as 80 PLUS Silver units.

All of that has changed with a refresh of the HX line. We have applied more of that Corsair PSU engineering wizardry with great results. All of the units in the HX line of PSUs now meet the 80 PLUS Gold standard.

One great result of the improved efficiency is the addition of the fanless mode of operation for the PSU cooling fan. At low loads, the PSU fans on the HX series PSUs do not spin resulting in a completely silent PSU under these conditions.
The high quality 140mm dual ball-bearing fans are very quiet when they do spin up. These PSUs are wonderfully quiet and powerful. In fact, we have specifically tuned the fanless mode of operation to compliment each individual power supply.

Of course the HX series still incorporates all of the features and specifications that made it great including the 7 year warranty, the flexible modular cable system and much more.

Clearly, a great line of power supplies is now even better. In fact, they are good as gold!
