Obsidian 700D and 800D USB 3.0 Kit

The Obsidian Series 700D and 800D cases are now USB 3.0 compatible.

Good news, everyone. You can now add USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed USB) capabilities to your existing Obsidian Series case! It's a fairly quick swap that replaces the old I/O panel with a new one.

USB 3.0 I/O Panel

The new panel includes two USB 3.0 SuperSpeed USB ports that connect to the rear USB 3.0 ports on your motherboard.

USB 3.0 Cable Connectors

This is currently the best way to guarantee full USB 3.0 speeds and data accuracy, while maximizing compatibility with older USB 3.0 compatible motherboards that do not have internal headers.

The USB 3.0 kit can be purchased from Corsair.com for $14.99 plus shipping. It's quick to install and requires only a few minutes and a phillips-head screwdriver.

is there gonna be a new version for motherboard with internal usb 3.0 headers?

Yeah, this seems to be a stop-gap and isn't a real solution. I'd really like to see this with internal 3.0 headers. As it is now, it's probably not worth the effort to replace if you're just going to use external plugs to the back of the case. Might as well save time and effort and just get a USB 3.0 hub. But I'd really prefer not to do that and get a version of this that supports USB 3.0 internal headers!

I was seconds away from clicking Buy when I re-read the description. I'm surprised that you would even think of releasing this solution without including the option for internal USB 3 headers right away. I would have been so pissed when I found out after I recieved the panel. I'll wait for the internal header version, please hurry up.

I DID buy this, thinking I could find a usb3 card with 2 internal plugs, so the wires would at least be all INSIDE the case....but so far I have only found cards with one. I should have looked for the card FIRST. I have to agree with others...the "plugs through the back loop" was a stop-gap measure made for older cases when usb3 first came out. I believe the newer model 800D cases HAVE the header for usb3, so why is THIS being sold???

Its been 10 months since I last posted. I hate to "rush" you, but are you making an USB 3 frontpanel for the 800D with internal USB 3 headers? The current solution lacks so much geek swag, its not even funny. I bought the 800D to have a nice clean look, not have to ugly cables through my hardware. It's a nuisance, yes, but it's always the final touch than seperate the cool things from shitty ones. Corsair emphazises design in all of your products, why should this be any different?

You can see what must have happened. Corsair would have ordered these in bulk. So until that whole consignment is sold we won't be seeing an update. Only see this page having ordered one from Scan last night :o( Surprised at you, Corsair.

I'd also like to know if it will happen to have that kit with internal USB3...

Hilarious in a sad way, Corsair. "Our cases have been designed with features you have to experience to appreciate. You'll find ample room to work, including extra clearance behind the motherboard tray to simplify cable routing, tool-less side panels and drive bays, and subtle touches like pre-installed ATX motherbaord standoffs. With a Corsair case, your system will look great, without spending hours to build it." Bullshit. I've just sold my Obsidian 800D eventhough I was very very fund of it, but I simply couldn't live with your disastrous USB3 front header. I mean come on, even the apprentice case designer in your team must /facepalm on a daily basis. I bought a Fractal Design Define XL which meets my needs, INCLUDING AN INTERNAL WELL DESIGNED USB3 FRONT PANEL!!! Do you think that the Obsidian 800D is bought from ordinary people!? We are computer enthuiasts, there is no way in h*ll that we accept ugly cables through the whole case!!!

OMG...... Just bought the ax1200i at full price and was again impressed with corsairs attention to detail. Even the high quality sticker was individually bagged with a protective film. Will buy this and use it if i can hide the cables. Not sure what other case manufactures offer in ways of timely updates but now im interested. Running cables passed internal connections bugs the hell out of me. My fancy new internal usb 3.0 connector has been calling out to me since i first notice it "look at me, I'm your mysterious new connector, use me".
