Designed for Years of Performance

The Obsidian Series 800D is built to last through years of motherboard, power, memory, cooling, and component upgrades.

The steel structure has a matte black coating both inside out and is finished with a brushed aluminum faceplate for a professional look that's both serious and awe-inspiring. A windowed side panel makes it easy to show off your work.

Three Isolated Cooling Zones

The power supply compartment, main compartment and the SATA bays each have dedicated cooling subsystems to prevent heat buildup.

A dust-filtered 140mm fan draws in cold air at the bottom of the case and exhausts it at the rear and top. This clever design forces fresh air directly over the graphics card and CPU. The SATA hot-swap bays are cooled by a separate 140mm fan which vents from the case via a sealed chamber and prevents the heat generated by the drives from entering the main compartment. The power supply compartment has its own dedicated intake and exhaust, also isolated from the main compartment.

Need even more cooling performance? The Obsidian Series 800D has pre-drilled support for top-mounted single, dual, and triple radiators, or up to three additional 120mm fans.

Advanced Features for Extreme Flexibility

A four-drive SATA3 hot-swap drive bay sits in the front of the case, making it easier to install or swap hard drives on the fly. A unique cable routing system virtually eliminates cable clutter that can impede airflow. The tool-free design allows for easy entry, easy access, and quick installation of 5.25” drives.

Sandy Bridge Build Log Metamorphosis: Corsair Link, CrossfireX, and Vengeance Gaming

By Mike Clements, on December 8th, 2011

In our first two installments of the Intel Sandy Bridge build logs, I documented the initial build of a workstation and then we did some benchmarking to document the performance. Since that time the machine has undergone an amazing metamorphosis into an all out gaming rig. With the aid of my assistant below, I made some substantial changes to the original build.

Corsair Workstation Extreme Build Log: Chapter 2

By Mike Clements, on October 20th, 2011

I began this build log thinking of it as more of a pure work station. Of course, it has the guts to be an exceptional gaming machine also. So, I thought it would be fun to see how it stacks up against my last gaming build log, Yellowbeard's Revenge.

Yellowbeard's Revenge (below left) was built around an X58 based motherboard using an Intel® Core™ i7 950 CPU, and a Graphite Series™ 600T case. This workstation (below right) is built using a Z68 based motherboard and a Core i7 2600K CPU. Due to the amount of HDs and other factors, I chose the Obsidian Series® 800D case for the workstation.

Corsair Workstation Extreme Build Log: Chapter 1

By Mike Clements, on September 13th, 2011

It goes without saying that some system builds are more fun than others. This is especially true when I know that I am going to get to do some extensive “testing” with it when I’m done as opposed to shipping it off to a tradeshow or LAN party. This build log is certainly no exception and may well be the most fun rig I have built since I’ve been employed here at Corsair. I built it to be a strong workstation, but I expect my testing to show that it will be excellent for gaming and multimedia also.

Installing the Hydro Series H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler In the Obsidian 800D

By Jeff Checchi, on July 29th, 2011

H100 Retail Box

The Hydro Series™ H100 is the new top of the line all enclosed water cooling CPU coolers from Corsair. The H100 is similar to other Hydro Series CPU coolers from Corsair with a few exceptions, the main one being that the H100 uses a longer 240mm radiator. Luckily all of Corsairs PC cases will support the H100 and this blog will serve to illustrate the process. We will be installing it in our Obsidian Series™ 800D full-tower case.

Frequently Asked Questions

Top Questions

  • Do the hot swappable HDD cradles in the 800D support SSDs and other 2.5in form factor drives?

Yes, using the screw holes on the bottom of the cradle (rather than the sides, which are used for standard 3.5in drives) you can secure a 2.5in HDD or SSD.

  • A part on my case has been damaged; do I need to have my whole case replaced?

In most instances you do not need to have the whole case replaced, we can replace the damaged part individually.  Please use Technical Support Xpress to submit a request.

  • Does the 800D support USB 3.0?

Newly purchased 800D already support USB 3.0.  If you have an older 800D then you can purchase an upgrade kit by going to the case accessory page on our website.

  • If I decide to mount fans on the top of the 800D, should they be used for exhaust or intake?

In most systems we would suspect that exhaust fans would make the most sense to be mounted on the top of the case. Every system is going to be slightly different so there is definitely some room to experiment.

  • Can I order a non-windowed side panel for the 800D?

Absolutely! Please check the corsair store, here: https://shop.corsair.com/store/item_view.aspx?id=1171683

  • What size motherboards will the 800D support?

They will support mATX, ATX, eATX.

  • What size radiator will fit in the top of the 800D?

The cases are designed to accommodate most 3x 120mm (360mm) radiators with enough space to support push/pull configurations. Measured from edge to edge of the mounting holes on the top of the case there is 10 mm of space between mounting holes.

  • I would like to use a 120mm fan on the rear fan mounting area or the 800D, is that possible?

The rear fan mounting location will support either a 140mm OR 120mm fan.

  • What are the specifications for the 140mm fans included in the 800D?

    RPM = 900 +-150
    CFM Max = 69
    dBA Max = 17.9

  • How many fans come with the 800D?

The 800D comes with 3x 140mm fans, and the case will support and additional 4x 120mm fans.

  • How do I remove the 5 1/4 plastic drive bay covers on the 800D?

The aluminum face plate on the front of the case is removable and it will need to be removed before you have access to remove the drive bay covers.  You will want to hold the top of the case with one hand and then pull outward from the bottom of the face plate.  The aluminum face plate should come right off and once you remove the necessary drive bay covers you can simply line up the face plate and snap it back into place.

Excellent Case

First off, this case is HUGE. lots of space for everything you could imagine. as stated in the previous post, if your into cable managment, then make sure your sata cable are extra long. i have this pared with a corsair ax850. the atx cable was a little short for the cable managment. just an fyi. other than that, i am very happy with this.

Great Case

This is a case that we as a Consulting Firm have built and rebuilt 10 times in various configurations for multiple Clients.

It has a few shortcomings in that there is no readily available front 3 1/2 inch Bay/Bezel for Media Readers or Devices, and it needs wheels.

This is a BEAST when loaded with 1200 watt PSU and 9 -11 drives and multiple GPU's

It is incredibly sturdy, well finished and allows for multiple methods, and configurations of air flow and cooling...whether it be water or air.

Snap open side panels and rubber grommeted interior make cable routing easy and for those who want to show off "their Stuff" the side window with a CC Tube makes a very impressive build.

If you re going to take advantage of "behind the scenes" cable routing you will most assuredly need to use extra long SATA cables for connections from the MB to the drives.

Best Steel case we have seen in years, and we hope they will be building a bit taller version of it with 9-10 expansion slots for the Gigabyte and EVGA MB's.
