Back in 2003, we launched the original XMS Pro Series modules. They gave you information about memory utilization using an LED display on the modules themselves. At the time, this was pretty awesome technology.

Today, we've announced the Corsair AirFlow Pro which is an evolution of this technology. Not only will the AirFlow Pro show you memory activity, but it also shows the temperature of the modules. It's not just a meaningless light show. It's information you can use.

I hadn't seen the AirFlow Pro until just yesterday while I was gathering the photo and video content for this post, and I was impressed. Not only with the lights themselves, but how easy it was to install.  Up to six modules can have their temperature and activity individually displayed on the AirFlow Pro. The AirFlow Pro easily mounts onto our existing AirFlow kit and requires no tools. There's just a couple screws to tighten and a single cable that plugs into each memory module.

For a complete listing of Corsair part numbers that are supported, reference this table. As a rule of thumb, if the part number on your modules starts with "CMT" or "CMP," you're good to go.

So, you think you put your PC components through some extreme conditions? Maybe you overclock your RAM or CPU a bit. PC enthusiasts are always trying to find ways to improve the performance of their enthusiast systems by upgrading their current system with newer and faster parts. One good way to get a performance boost is by running two solid-state drives in RAID 0. Knowing this, we have decided to illustrate a simple way for our customers to improve their RAID 0 performance, with any of Corsair's full line of Force Series, Reactor Series, Nova Series, Performance Series or Extreme Series solid-state drives. All without spending a huge amount of time or money to do it.

One way this can be accomplished is by updating the system storage controller drivers with the newest Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver in combination with a compatible Intel chipset-based motherboard. Romanian overclocker Matei Mihatoiu, aka “matose” of the Lab501 overclocking and review website has reached some incredible memory frequencies using the Corsair Dominator GTX1 DDR3 memory. In his initial testing using only air cooling on the CPU and memory controller, matose was able to achieve benchmark stability at an impressive 2666MHz, which he validated at the CPU-Z website. This is far above the normal rated speed for these modules of 2400MHz.

Apparently, 2666MHz was not fast enough for matose. Not satisfied with mere air cooling, matose then escalated his efforts for speed and used dry ice, or DICE, in his cooling effort to take his CPU and memory controller temperatures far below the freezing point. The result was an astounding benchmark stable and CPU-Z validated 2906MHz.

We posted a video a few weeks back featuring the performance gain that can be achieved when upgrading to an SSD on a laptop. What we didn't show in that video was how to install the Performance Series P256 SSD into the Dell Inspiron 15 machines that we used. Until now, that is.

Combining fast products like the Corsair Force Series Solid-State Drives and the Dominator® GTX2 DDR3 memory modules makes building a fast PC relatively easy. To demonstrate just how fast our products are, we decided to go after the PCMark Vantage world record. This benchmark heavily stresses the entire system, not just the CPU and GPU like the 3DMark Series. With PCMark Vantage the memory and SSDs are stressed just as much if not more than the CPU and GPU, with almost all of the individual benchmark tests taking advantage of the fast solid-state drives. Let’s take a look into how we accomplished our goal:

Using eleven Force Series F200 solid-state drives and the Corsair Dominator GTX2 DDR3 memory modules the record was set to 32,947 PCMarks. The system contained the brand new Intel® Core™ i7-980X six-core processor cooled with liquid nitrogen on the EVGA® X58 Classified. This combination would allow the CPU frequency upwards of 5.5GHz and memory clocks of 2000MHz+. The drives were combined into a Raid 0 on the Areca® ARC-1680D-IX-12 PCI-E RAID controller. The entire system was powered by the Corsair Professional Series HX1000 power supply.
