The EX400U SURVIVOR is the latest addition to our portable SSD lineup. As the name suggests, it is built to handle tougher real-world conditions than the original EX400U. Its IP55 rating protects against dust and water, so you can keep working even when the environment is less than ideal. A rugged, pocket-friendly housing makes it easy to carry, and the USB4 Type-C port is sealed behind a protective flap when not in use.
Internally, EX400U SURVIVOR uses the same controller and NAND as EX400U, delivering the same fast performance. The two drives will coexist, with SURVIVOR aimed at more demanding outdoor or travel scenarios, while EX400U focuses on convenience features such as a MagSafe-compatible magnetic ring for iPhone workflows.
Just like the EX400U, the EX400U SURVIVOR supports USB4 for super-fast transfer rates while remaining backward compatible with USB 3.2. This ensures wide compatibility with a range of devices and operating systems, including Windows, macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. It also works with Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 5, making it a great choice for Apple users.
Peak sequential performance reaches up to 4,000MB/s reads and 3,600MB/s writes when connected to a USB4 host.
The easiest way to show what’s different between the EX400U SURVIVOR and the original EX400U is with a table:

| Power Active Write | 4.1 W | 4.1 W |

| IP Rating | IP55 | - |
The underlying controller and NAND are largely the same, so the differences are physical, including that all important IP55 rating.
A device’s Ingress Protection (IP) rating indicates how well protected it is from dust and water. The two digits after the “IP” prefix represent the two different protections, the first for solids, the second for liquids.
Combined it means that the EX400U SURVIVOR will keep working in environments where dust and water exposure is a concern. It’s not designed for submersion though, so don’t take it swimming, but it will handle rain or dusty conditions without issue.
EX400U SURVIVOR is a high-performance external SSD for creators and gamers who need speed and durability. It offers incredible throughput and makes storing, backing up, and sharing content easier on the go. With the included Type-C to Type-C cable, you get simple plug-and-play power and data over a single connection. Available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, there’s plenty of space for any workflow. If you don’t need the IP55 rating, the original EX400U remains a great option, especially for Apple users.
