Mafia: The Old Country PC Specs and Recommended Requirements

Last updated:

The Mafia Series of games started back in 2002, following on from the third-person sandbox action-adventure revolution that was Grand Theft Auto III. While this series hasn’t seen the industry-defining success of GTA, it’s still held its own as a more serious, slightly historical, and well-received franchise.

Most of the games have been set in the mid-20th century, offering a look at the Mafia’s business in the pre- and post-war United States, but this time around, it’s different. What we do here is go back. Back to the 1900s and back to Sicily, The Old Country.

Before you go back, though, it's worth checking if your PC can handle this game. So, let’s take a look at the system requirements for Mafia: The Old Country so you don’t embarrass yourself in front of the Don.

Mafia The Old Country - pc specs

Mafia: The Old Country Minimum PC Specs

Helpfully, the Steam store page for Mafia: The Old Country claims that the minimum PC specs are good for the “Medium” preset at 1080p, and the recommended PC specs will get you playing on “High” at 1440p. This is useful, but makes no mention of frame rate, and you’ll never get made playing at 30 FPS, now will you?

Can I Run Mafia: The Old Country?

This game looks like it’s going to be an absolute stunner, not only from a design standpoint, but in terms of fidelity too. So, we’re seeing some rather taxing specs, which means that if you’re keen to fulfil your fantasy of being a cool mafioso, we have some ideas on where to start.

Firstly, the recommended and indeed minimum specs call for relatively modern CPUs, so if your machine is a little old, grabbing something like a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D or Intel Core i9-12900K will really give your PC a boost. (Keeping your new CPU cool with an iCUE LINK TITAN 360 RX or NAUTILUS 360 RS AIO is also a good idea if you don’t want thermal throttling to massacre your boy.)

Given that Mafia: The Old Country is an open-world game, a fast CPU will help, but more RAM, especially DDR5, will probably make a bigger difference. The minimum specs state that 16 GB is enough, but we don’t agree, and as usual are recommending 32 GB.

Worried about the cost? How about we make you an offer you can’t refuse? Right now, 32 GB of VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 is going for 120 bucks…

For those really keen on experiencing the Sicilian countryside with all the particle effects and ray tracing bells and whistles, a new GPU is in order. One of the Nvidia RTX 50-Series cards will make you untouchable, but an AMD Radeon RX 90-Series GPU will also suffice (and would be far easier to attain).

Lastly, both sets of Mafia: The Old Country PC specs insist on an SSD. Honestly? We agree. If you’re still gaming on an HDD, you look like a fool. Get an MP600 ELITE in your PC right now, or better yet: an MP700 PRO. Capisce? Good.

We mentioned that this game is going to be a stunner earlier, so we’d also suggest that if you haven’t already, get a proper gaming monitor. Preferably an OLED like the XENEON FLEX or XENEON 34WQHD240-C. Ultrawide OLED monitors like these will really make this game pop and provide a considerably more immersive experience.

What Kind of Game is Mafia: The Old Country?

The Mafia games are known for being less goofy, more solemn takes on the open-world genre. This one however, is more linear. So yes, you’ll be shooting wiseguys, blowing up opposing gangs, and making daring escapes, but you won’t be subjected to quite so many topical references or happen upon zesty characters offering up side quests.

Additionally, due to the period you’ll be taken through a presumably semi-accurate historical environment and enjoy all the clothing, accessories, and weapons of the time. There is also fun to be had with the traversal, as the turn-of-the-century setting means that horses and cars existed as modes of transport simultaneously, which will provide some fun variation.

Those who liked the older Assassin’s Creed games just for the experience of taking in a snapshot of a bygone era and locale will have a great time with this game.

In terms of the plot, you play as Enzo Favara, a name chosen presumably to make sure English speakers have a chance of pronouncing it correctly, much like Ezio from Assassin’s Creed. Enzo’s childhood of indentured labor in the sulfur mines of Sicily has provided him with both the fortitude and motivation necessary to better his position.

Of course, a childhood of mining does not set one up with the skills to make a legitimate living, so instead, he opts to climb the ladder of the Torrisi crime family. This means you’ll have to use intimidation, lies, and all-out violence to make a name for yourself in the criminal underworld.

The marketing materials for Mafia: The Old Country flat out say: “Play a Classic Mob Movie,” which really sums it all up better than we’d be able to do, so we’ll leave it at that.
