How to install the Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler
Published on 02/22/2013By Jeff Checchi
Your PC will run cooler and quieter when you replace your CPU’s standard heatsink with a Hydro Series H50.
Installation is straightforward: if you can get to the back of your PC’s motherboard, you can install an H50. All you’ll need is a screwdriver.
The compact components and flexible tubing make Hydro Series H50 easy to install even if you’re cramped for space. It allows you to improve your CPU’s cooling efficiency even in most compact cases — as long as your case has a 120mm fan mount near the CPU, H50 will probably fit.
Hydro Series H50 comes pre-filled, and never needs refilling or priming.
The modular design makes installation simpler, and it’s compatible with Intel processors.
The low speed and wide diameter reduces noise levels over the smaller, faster fans used on stock CPU coolers. The three-pin connector is compatible with fan controllers.
Minimal coolant evaporation helps ensure long life, and the resilient rubber offers both high flexibility and excellent leak protection.
The pump unit provides high-speed circulation without taking a lot of space. This makes installation easier, and helps improve your case’s airflow.
Copper has excellent thermal transfer characteristics, and the fin design is optimized for efficient heat exchange.
The low-profile design reduces the airflow requirement, which helps make H50 quieter. The small size also allows for easier installation and improved compatibility, and the black finish looks great.

The new Intel® Socket 2011, used on the new X79 motherboards and the new 2nd generation Intel Core Sandy Bridge-E CPUs, has changed significantly from Socket 1366. As you can see below there are no longer the traditional holes through the PCB. There is now a metal bracket that has been tapped to accept M4 screws. Because of this the Corsair
Hydro Series H70, H80 and H100 CPU coolers all come with separate screws to mount on Socket 2011 boards.
Included with the H80 and H100 are four standoffs that have a shorter wider end. These are for socket 2011, the shorter end screws into the metal mounting plate on the motherboard.
Install all four of the standoffs as shown below.
After installing and tightening down all four standoffs, the CPU cooler is ready to be installed.
Next the thumb nuts are installed. Tighten these in an X pattern to ensure the pressure is even, resulting in a good mount on the CPU.
The H70 Core uses the same bracket for socket 1155, 1156, 1366, and 2011. Again socket 2011 uses larger M4 screws and does not need the backplate. Make sure all of the holes on the retention ring are towards the outside (as seen below). Then install the M4 screws through these holes.
The retention ring should then be put on the H70 Core. The H70 Core cooling unit and retention ring can then be installed on the motherboard. The M4 screws will screw right into the mounting holes on the motherboard. Again tighten these in an X pattern to ensure the pressure is even resulting in a good mount on the CPU.
