How to Use Elgato Stream Deck with NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD

Last updated:

The CORSAIR NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD gaming mouse is built for more than just precision aiming and ergonomic comfort. Through integration with the Elgato Stream Deck App, the NIGHTSWORD v2 can function as a fully programmable Stream Deck device, assigning Stream Deck actions directly to the mouse and even toggling a Virtual Stream Deck panel on the desktop. This guide walks through how each of these Stream Deck features works and how to configure them.

What is Elgato Stream Deck?

Elgato's Stream Deck line is one of the most versatile shortcut tools available, designed to fit into virtually any workflow. The idea is straightforward: assign actions to programmable buttons and execute them with a single press. Stream Deck devices come in multiple forms to suit different setups, from compact standalone devices with programmable LCD keys to versions built directly into keyboards. The ecosystem also extends to virtual panels that overlay the desktop and directly onto mouse buttons, including those on the NIGHTSWORD v2.

The Stream Deck App is the central hub that ties all of this together. It uses a drag-and-drop interface to assign actions to any compatible device, meaning the same action library works whether the input is a physical Stream Deck, a virtual panel, or a mouse button. Understanding the app is the foundation for getting the most out of any Stream Deck integrated device. To get started, download the Stream Deck App from the Elgato website and once installed, connect any compatible device to begin using Stream Deck.

Stream Deck Built Onto the Mouse

The NIGHTSWORD v2's programmable buttons connect directly to the Stream Deck App, where each one functions as a fully assignable Stream Deck key. This means that the mouse is an active part of the Stream Deck ecosystem, capable of running the same actions and shortcuts as any physical Stream Deck hardware.

Once the mouse appears in the Stream Deck App, selecting it from the device dropdown displays the available button slots. From there, any action from the Stream Deck library can be dragged onto a button, whether that's a keyboard shortcut, an OBS scene switch, an application launcher, or a custom macro. The NIGHTSWORD v2 offers eight programmable buttons compatible with Stream Deck, covering most of the mouse's side and top buttons. Left click and right click cannot be remapped but scroll wheel tilt and the remaining programmable buttons are all available for Stream Deck. This makes the NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD useful beyond gaming sessions. Editors, streamers, and multitaskers can keep their most-used Stream Deck actions on the mouse itself, reducing the need to reach for a separate device or switching between windows.

Creating a Virtual Stream Deck

Virtual Stream Deck is a software feature within the Stream Deck App that provides a Stream Deck panel directly on the desktop as a floating overlay. It functions identically to a physical Stream Deck, with the same drag-and-drop format but without requiring any additional hardware.

On the NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD, any of the programmable buttons can be assigned as a Virtual Stream Deck toggle button. Pressing that button will show or hide the panel on the desktop, making it easy to bring up quickly and dismiss when not in use.

The Virtual Stream Deck panel is highly configurable. Key size, grid dimensions, and screen position can all be adjusted within the Stream Deck App. It can be set to a fixed location on screen or set to appear near the cursor position when triggered. In addition, each key can also be individually customized with unique icons, labels, and colors, along with the Stream Deck drag-and-drop system. In practice, Virtual Stream Deck delivers the same full functionality as any physical Stream Deck device, without requiring any additional hardware.

Developing a Stream Deck Profile

Profiles are one of the more powerful organizational features in the Stream Deck App. A profile is essentially a saved button layout with a specific set of actions for an app or general use and can be set for any Stream Deck compatible device. Multiple profiles can be created for any device, and the Stream Deck app can be configured to switch between profiles automatically or have a dedicated profile switch button.

To create a new profile, open the Stream Deck App and select the target device from the dropdown.

  • Click the profile menu at the top of the interface and select New Profile.

  • To enable automatic switching, open Edit Profile, navigate to Application, and select the app that should trigger this profile.

Once set, the Stream Deck layout will switch to that profile automatically whenever the selected application becomes active. For setups where automatic switching isn't preferred, leaving the application field set to None keeps the profile static. In that case, profiles can be switched manually through the app, or a dedicated profile-switcher action can be assigned to one of NIGHTSWORD v2's programmable buttons for quick access without opening the app.

For those looking to speed up the setup process or expand what Stream Deck can do, the Elgato Marketplace is worth exploring. It offers a library of ready-made profiles, icon packs, and plugins that extend Stream Deck's action library. Any profile or plugin downloaded from the Elgato Marketplace installs directly into the Stream Deck App and works across all connected devices, including NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD.

Putting It All Together

The NIGHTSWORD v2's Stream Deck integration works across two main functions: programmable buttons on the mouse mapped to Stream Deck actions, and Virtual Stream Deck toggled and controlled from the mouse. Each function works independently, but they're most effective when used together, with set profiles keeping everything organized for efficient workflows. Getting started only requires downloading the Stream Deck App and connecting the NIGHTSWORD v2. From there, the configuration is entirely up to how the setup is used.
