The iCUE LINK System Hub launched in June 2023 with a Micro-USB interface for the USB connection to the motherboard. Back then, the tech industry was still in the process of transitioning through various USB standards.
(If you recall, in September 2023 Apple launched the first iPhone with USB Type-C as well with its 15 and 15 Pro/Pro Max phones). At launch CORSAIR included a Micro-USB connector on the back of the iCUE LINK System Hub, but it has now begun to transition the USB interface on the System Hub to USB Type-C.
There is no difference in terms of functionality, as both versions use a USB connection for iCUE detection of the System Hub and connected devices. The only difference between them is the type of USB port found on the System Hub; they are identical otherwise.
There are several benefits to switching from Micro-USB to USB Type-C. The reasons include:
The transition to USB Type-C for the iCUE LINK System Hub has not fully rolled out to everyone yet, so if you buy a new iCUE LINK product such as an all-in-one CPU cooler or Fan Starter Kit, you might get one with a Micro-USB connector. Do not worry if this happens, as it will offer the exact same functionality as the USB Type-C version, and most PC builders connect this cable once and don't have to think about it again until years later when they upgrade or build a new PC.
Regardless of which type of USB connector is present, both devices work exactly the same and support up to 24 iCUE LINK devices across two channels. Learn more about iCUE LINK here.
