Silent Hill f System Requirements and Recommended Specs

Atmospheric Survival Horror fans are eating good this year. Not only did we get a complete remake of the GOAT Silent Hill 2, but now we’re getting an entirely new entry to the franchise – the first since 2012, in fact.

This time around, we move away from the creepy semi-abandoned fictional town of Silent Hill to the creepy, semi-abandoned fictional town of Ebisugaoka. This is an entirely new setting for the franchise, which is exciting as it opens the door to a different environmental design and new flavors of horrifying monsters that will presumably reflect the main character’s psyche.

But we’ll talk more about the setting and gameplay later. First, we’ll go over the system requirements and specs for Silent Hill f.

Can I Run Silent Hill f?

Usually, we have to make some educated assumptions here, but not today. Luckily, the Steam Store Page for Silent Hill f notes the type of performance you can expect from a PC with hardware correlating to either of the lists above.

If your PC has components equivalent to those listed in the minimum requirements, you can expect to play “on Performance quality settings at 30 FPS at 720p”. Yuck.

If your hardware is similar to what’s listed in the recommended requirements, you should be able to play “on Performance settings at 60 FPS or Quality settings at 30 FPS at FullHD (or 4k using DLSS or similar technology)”. That’s more like it.

It’s worth noting that both of these performance predictions recommend an SSD, something that we consider to be non-negotiable for a modern gaming PC. So, grab a CORSAIR MP600 ELITE or even an MP700 ELITE if you want to be ready for when DirectStorage gets going.

Additionally, as usual, we’re going to recommend 32 GB of RAM. 16 GB is really more of a bare minimum today and investing in 32 GB or even 64 GB has benefits that extend beyond gaming, too. Pick up some CORSAIR DOMINATOR RAM if you’re feeling fancy, or choose VENGEANCE if you want to keep costs lower.

While not directly related to performance, we’re going to recommend that you consider a new monitor, too. Silent Hill games are famously detailed, high-fidelity, and dripping with atmosphere, so an OLED monitor will make the gameplay experience that much more horrifying. The XENEON 34WQHD240-C is great for immersion due to its 21:9 aspect ratio, or consider the XENEON 27QHD240 if you’d also appreciate a bump in capability for esports titles like Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant.

What Kind of Game is Silent Hill f?

The Silent Hill Series is usually described as “survival horror”, which is true, but detrimentally specific as it puts the franchise in a box that doesn’t fully describe the type of experience you’re in for.

There’s a distinct psychological undertone, with symbolism and subtext woven into the design, plot, and environment. Everything is steeped in a sodden and oppressive atmosphere that really gets to the player. At least, that's when the franchise is doing it correctly, with Silent Hill 2 of course being the zenith and Silent Hill: Homecoming being the nadir. Despite its reputation as a legendary series, Silent Hill as a whole has been incredibly inconsistent.

That said, Silent Hill f certainly looks like it will be a very strong return to form, with the trailers, screenshots, and artwork evoking a slow, depressing exploration of the new setting, punctuated at points with frightening combat. Just as it should be.

We mentioned at the beginning of this page that this installment takes place in Japan, which is new for the series, and will allow for a look and vibe totally distinct from the previous games. Additionally, for the western players out there, the foreign locale might elicit some additional fear due to the unfamiliarity.

Regardless of whether you're a veteran of this series or a complete newcomer, you're in for a treat here. For some extra spooky vibes, playing this game in a darkened room is recommended. Though perhaps not for the faint of heart...
