NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD vs NIGHTSWORD RGB: What's the Difference?

Last updated:

The CORSAIR NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD is the latest evolution of the NIGHTSWORD mouse line. While it shares a name with the original NIGHTSWORD RGB, the two mice tell very different stories. The original was built around physical customization and performance tuning. Where the NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD is built around putting more control directly at the fingertips.

Stream Deck Integration

This is where the two mice diverge most sharply. The original NIGHTSWORD RGB was all about precision, weights, grip, and sensor tuning. The NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD introduces something entirely new to gaming mice: Elgato Stream Deck Integration.

With a dedicated Stream Deck Launch Button, one press brings a personalized Virtual Stream Deck overlay directly to the screen, customizable through the Stream Deck app. Alongside Virtual Stream Deck control, the mouse's physical buttons can also be mapped to Stream Deck actions. Both are managed through the Elgato Stream Deck app and are expandable via Elgato Marketplace with plugins, profiles, and more.

The original NIGHTSWORD RGB had no Stream Deck functionality of any kind. For anyone who wants direct Elgato Stream Deck integration built into a mouse rather than a separate peripheral, the NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD is the clear path forward.

Performance and Hardware

The sensor gap between the two mice is significant. The NIGHTSWORD RGB shipped with a Pixart PMW3391 capable of up to 18,000 DPI. The NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD steps up to the CORSAIR MARKSMAN S at 33,000 DPI with 750 IPS speed and 50G acceleration. Tracking precision is measurably higher, and the sensor holds accuracy across faster, more demanding scenarios.

Polling rate and connectivity follows the same trajectory. The NIGHTSWORD RGB capped out at 1,000Hz, while the NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD reaches up to 8,000Hz in both wired and wireless modes via SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS. NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD also supports tri mode connectivity compared to the NIGHTSWORD RGB’s wired-only connection. The three modes are 2.4GHz SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS, Bluetooth, and detachable wired USB cable. An included wireless adapter lets players position the receiver closer to the mouse, shortening transmission distance and maintaining up to 170 hours of battery life.

On feel, the two mice reflect different priorities. The original NIGHTSWORD RGB offered a tunable weight system with up to 120 configurations between 119g and 141g. The NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD is at a fixed 89g with an ergonomic right-handed shape comfort just like the original. Lastly, the NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD has optical switches which are also rated for up to 100 million clicks, double the Omron mechanicals in the original NIGHTSWORD RGB.

Software

The software experience between the two mice is notably different. The NIGHTSWORD RGB uses CORSAIR iCUE to control RGB, polling rate, and button mapping. The NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD uses CORSAIR Web Hub, a browser-based tool that covers the same core controls as iCUE without requiring software to download.

Alongside Web Hub, the NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD also works with the Elgato Stream Deck app. Through Stream Deck, the mouse can be programmed with Stream Deck actions and Virtual Stream Deck controls, extending the mouse's capabilities well beyond standard button remapping.

Which Mouse is Right for the Job?

The original NIGHTSWORD RGB made its case through physical precision with a tunable weight system, a strong sensor for its era, and a 1,000Hz wired connection built for reliability. The NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD is a fundamentally different kind of mouse. It's the first gaming mouse with a dedicated Stream Deck Launch Button, and it pairs that capability with a sensor that outperforms its predecessor, wireless connectivity that matches wired performance at up to 8,000Hz, optical switches with twice the rated lifespan, and a battery that runs for days.

For competitive players who want the fastest possible input and Elgato's Stream Deck Integration built directly into their mouse, the NIGHTSWORD v2 WIRELESS SD is where the NIGHTSWORD line goes next.
