How do you want connect your keyboard? There are wireless options, including Bluetooth and dongle technologies. There are also wired connections, typically via USB. People use keyboards in different ways. Gamers look for advanced features that an office worker, for example, doesn't need or want. Determine why you need a keyboard, and you'll be able to narrow down the choices more quickly. Gamers typically require functions and technologies that enhance the gaming experience, such as custom actuation, rapid trigger with programable keys.

Switches will have different click type that affects the typing experience. Typically switches are linear, tactile, or clicky, ranging from quieter to noisier. MLX (mechanical) offers great typing experience in different variants of clicks. OPX (optical) offers great out-of-the-box response and speed for serious gamers. MGX (magnetic) offers in-depth controls over actuation points and enables advanced features like Rapid Trigger. These deliver the best performance for competitive gamers.

Do you have a work computer and a personal computer? If you’re considering a wireless keyboard, you may want to consider one that can switch between multiple devices. Many options today can switch between three or four different devices, giving you fast and frictionless control over any setup. All CORSAIR keyboards also have a PS5 compatibility mode and work with Xbox systems, too

Membrane keyboards work by sending an electrical signal between 2 plastic membranes. Mechanical keyboards, on the other hand, work via a switch underneath each keycap like a typewriter. This makes the keyboard more responsive and comfortable. Membrane keyboards are more entry level and tend to be more affordable, though there are plenty of mechanical keyboard options now at various price points.

Keyboard size refers to the physical size of the keyboard, which is proportional to how many keys it has. In general, the more physical keys it has, the bigger the keyboard. Sizes are often referred to percentages — 100%, 75%, 60% and so on— which uses a full size layout as the reference point. Keyboards that are “60%" to "65%” are considered compact keyboards.

Most keyboards come with various hotkeys and media keys. Similar to keyboard shortcuts, these keys allow you to perform tasks quickly. Media keys control volume and video. Hotkeys let you complete specific tasks by pressing a combination of buttons, and many keyboards replace these combinations with one-touch buttons. Complex macros and key remaps are fully programmable in iCUE software.
