HXi SHIFT Case Compatibility Explained

The HXi SHIFT PSUs have inherited the side-mounted cable connections from the RMx SHIFT series of power supplies, in addition to a built-in iCUE LINK System Hub.

This makes the HXI SHIFT series the most comprehensive Power Supply we've made to date. However, now that the modular connections are on the side facing the side panel, you must make sure there is enough clearance in your chosen case between the PSU and the side panel when it's closed. Here's how.

How to Check if the HXi SHIFT PSUs Will Fit in Your Case

  1. Make sure the case is compatible with ATX PSUs.
  2. Check to make sure that there is at least 30mm of clearance between the side of the HXi SHIFT and the side panel when its closed. This clearance ensures that there is enough space for the cables to curve around and make it to the components in your case.
  3. If you are struggling to verify that there is 30mm of clearance, most cases that are 210mm wide (or more) will usually have enough space for a SHIFT PSU.

These are the same requirements as the RMx SHIFT PSUs.

It is also worth mentioning that if you intend to make use of the integrated iCUE LINK System Hub, then you need some clearance behind the PSU. This is not nearly as crucial to check as there is typically a lot of space here for the cables of less sophisticated PSUs.

Are Higher-wattage Models Bigger?

Yes, but only in the length dimension. In terms of making sure that the side connections have enough space, the specific wattage of HXi SHIFT you choose has no bearing on compatibility.

Remember that these PSUs are still of the ATX classification. This means the height and width are standard. Only the length changes in response to wattage.
