Mortal Shell II System Requirements and Minimum Specs

Mortal Shell II is oddly enough the sequel to Mortal Shell released in 2020, as before we have a single player Soulslike game. Where previously we controlled the Foundling, this time around we play as the Harbinger, who sounds like a lovely person to have at parties.

The game's opening cutscene ties into the previous game’s conclusion, meaning you can play this as a standalone title if you wish, though a play through of the first not only will help understand the playstyle but also sets the basis for the game’s lore and, well, it’s a good game to play.

If you’re a returning fan or curious about the game, it’s certainly worth looking at the steam store page for Mortal Shell II for more details.

  • RAM: 16 GB RAM

  • Storage: 70 GB available space
  • DirectX Version: 12
  • SSD: Required

Can I run Mortal Shell II?

It is likely you can, given the surprisingly low minimum system requirements for the game. The CPU and GPU requirements are several generations old, meaning you can run these on some quite low specification systems, and with the full controller support it’s a strong contender for those with a media PC that doubles as a relaxed gaming system.

While the game has no recommended settings, the minimal specification is for the game is to have it running at 1080p and 30fps. If you wish to play at higher resolutions and higher FPS, we would suggest a 40 Series Nvidia GPU or 7900XT and above to enable Raytracing with DLSS or with AMD FSR.

For the CPU, perhaps an Intel 13600K or above or an AMD Ryzen 5 5700X or above to keep pace with the higher end GPU. For the RAM increasing your capacity to 32GB will help maintain a smooth gaming experience and reduce stutter during the fast action scenes. The reasoning for these recommendations is because the game makes use of the Unreal 5 engine, and generally speaking, for 1440p resolution these are the requirements you would need to playable at 60fps or above.

What kind of Game is Mortal Shell II

As mentioned, Mortal Shell II is a Soulslike game. The Term “Soulslike” comes from the Dark Souls series or games. The game style involves stamina-based combat with checkpoints you must reach to progress, these also act as spawning and healing locations in many games so when you die you go back to that point, but also any enemies you kill will also respawn. Often the play style is high risk, high reward, meaning when you die you will lose a lot of the hard-earned loot and currency. This encourages careful exploration and makes enemy encounters that much more nerve-wracking

In the case of Mortal Shell II, we have no stamina bar which is always helpful meaning you can spam attacks to your heart’s content. But you still have a block bar which is not infinite, meaning getting the perfect parry is very worthwhile.

As you progress through the game you unlock new shells, these are the bodies of fallen warriors that the Harbinger can inhabit. Think of these as the different classes, there are a total of eight dotted around the playable world and each has their own strengths and weaknesses.

The more you play each class, the more skills and perks you can unlock for them. That’s not to mean you will want to play just one shell for the entire game, but it is worth levelling them up and doing their quests as you discover all that the land of Fallgrim has to offer.
