iCUE LINK TITAN II FlowDrive 2 Pump Explained

The original FlowDrive debuted with the first-generation iCUE LINK TITAN CPU coolers. A pump may not sound particularly exciting, but the new FlowDrive 2 pump found in the iCUE LINK TITAN II family of CPU coolers introduces several meaningful changes.

The FlowDrive 2 pump uses a closed impeller design with 10 blades, whereas the original FlowDrive uses a fully open impeller design with seven blades. The closed impeller and increased blade count deliver up to 30% greater flow than the original FlowDrive pump.

The closed impeller design also offers greater durability, reducing wear over time to help extend its lifespan.

The new pump also operates at a lower overall noise level. Pump noise can be particularly noticeable because its low-frequency hum can be difficult to block out. The FlowDrive 2 helps reduce this distraction for quieter system operation.

The FlowDrive 2 pump is paired with an updated cold plate on iCUE LINK TITAN II coolers. The copper cold plate is thinner, which reduces thermal resistance, helping transfer heat away from the CPU more efficiently.

AMD integrated heat spreaders present a particular cooling challenge due to their distinctive shape. To provide more even pressure distribution, the cold plate has a convex profile that improves contact across the CPU surface. This helps reduce the risk of hotspots that could limit CPU performance.
