CONTROL Resonant System Requirements and Recommended Specs

CONTROL Resonant is a change of pace compared to the original CONTROL. It still looks like it’s centred around supernatural, distorted reality, but instead of running around a dystopian corporate office shooting possessed middle managers like in the original, now it appears that the game is basically part of the superhero genre.

Those who remember CONTROL will recall the mind-bending visuals and the non-insignificant amount of particle effects and simulations. Those, combined with an open world, might require a pretty powerful PC. So, let’s take a look.

Interestingly, they give an Intel CPU recommendation but just say “AMD equivalent” for the minimum specs, but for the recommended specs they give an AMD recommendation and say “Intel equivalent.” For your convenience, the Intel equivalent to the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X is an Intel Core i7-10700 and the AMD equivalent to the Intel Core i5-8500 is an AMD Ryzen 5 3500.

We’re surprised by this, as the requirements look far more accessible than we anticipated, especially given how spectacular this game looks from the trailers and screenshots on the Steam page.

Of course, we have no idea how optimized the game will be just yet, but it’s nice to have a triple-A release that doesn’t require totally cutting-edge hardware. However, a 100GB install size is quite ludicrous for a single-player game, even by modern standards. So, make sure to delete some games if you have a quick enough internet connection that means redownloading large files isn’t annoying. Alternatively, invest in a large SSD such as the MP700 PRO 4TB, MP600 CORE XT 4TB, or the MP600 PRO XT 8TB.

The first CONTROL was essentially a third-person shooter with a sprinkle of otherworldly powers and upgrades. CONTROL Resonant, however, looks like it’s fully embraced the supernatural side of things. If you remember the inFamous and Prototype games, then it will look very familiar.

The decision to move to an open world makes sense here, as all the cool stuff you could do with the powers in the first game amounted to nothing gameplay-wise as you were still constrained to the interior of an office building.

The premise is that the paranormal threat that corrupted reality inside the office block in the original CONTROL has broken the tenuous lockdown that the protagonist Jesse had secured. So it’s time for her brother Dylan to fight it out in the open. (Dylan was actually an unseen focal point of the first game’s story so it’s nice to put a name to a face.)

The comparison to Prototype and inFamous slightly undersells this franchise, though, as you can expect the kind of manipulated gravity and physics seen in Inception and Doctor Strange, creating a unique version of Manhattan to fight through and gather collectibles in. It’s not possible to get specific about the story yet, as these games are anything but straightforward. Looks fun though.
