VENGEANCE RGB RS DDR5 vs VENGEANCE RGB DDR5: What’s the difference?

Last updated:

What’s the difference? Let’s cut to the chase here: Not a lot. There are some subtle differences between the two, with the newer VENGEANCE RGB RS DDR5 featuring an updated look on the heatspreader, packing fewer RGB LEDs (six as opposed to ten), but that difference can be hard to spot given both memory lines use panoramic lightbars, which diffuse the lighting for a smoother spread of light.

These differences are best shown in a table:

One thing that’s worth noting about VENGEANCE RGB RS DDR5 memory is that the lighting can be controlled directly by motherboard software. You can also take control of your lighting in iCUE software of course, but being able to control your lighting with ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light, GIGABYTE RGB Fusion, or ASRock Polychrome RGB will appeal to many users.

Performance

The main difference between these lines is the speeds at which they operate, with VENGEANCE RGB RS DDR5 being aimed at the more affordable end of the pricing spectrum, leaving the original VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 offering the faster, more premium speeds.

If you work with memory-sensitive applications, or you simply want to make sure that your system operates optimally, then the faster frequencies and lower latencies of VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 make sense. Independent testing shows the difference that frequency, latency, and capacities can make to modern gaming, and the outcome is that you want a 32GB kit or larger, running at 6,000MT/s with a CAS latency of 30. Such memory does come at a premium though, so if your budget is more constrained, then VENGEANCE RGB RS DDR5 makes sense.

VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 is also available in black, white, and gray, which may be important if you’ve gone for an all-white build, while VENGEANCE RGB RS is only available in gray right now.

Capacity

VENGEANCE RGB RS DDR5 launches at two capacities, 32GB (2x 16GB) and 64GB (2x 32GB) with 16GB (2x 8GB) kits due a little later. Given these kits are aimed at the more price-conscious market segment, that lower capacity makes sense and will help anyone trying to build a more affordable gaming PC. It is worth noting here that modern gaming benefits from higher memory capacities, with a low latency 32GB memory kit showing some big improvements over 16GB kits.

If you’re looking for a kit that’s larger than 64GB, or you want to go for 4x 16GB kits, then the original VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 is the way to go.

Overview

Essentially, if you’re on a tight budget for a complete build or a system upgrade, then VENGEANCE RGB RS DDR5 memory makes sense. It’s slightly more affordable, the lighting can be controlled via your motherboard’s default software, it looks great, and supports AMD EXPO as well as Intel XMP 3.0 directly.

If you’re looking for faster memory, with lower latencies, or higher capacities, then VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 is your better option.

If you’re in the market for DDR5 memory right now, we do have a couple of other options to consider as well. If you’re not bothered about RGB LEDs, then you can save a little cash going for the straight VENGEANCE DDR5 memory, which closely matches the VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 lineup albeit without the lights. Alternatively, if you’re after something a little more premium, then DOMINATOR TITANIUM DDR5 is tough to beat, with its DHX cooling, replaceable top bar, and high capacities.
