The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered System Requirements and Recommended Specs

At Gamescom 2026, CD Projekt Red announced that the legendary Witcher 3 will be receiving a free remaster in the form of an update for anyone who owns a copy.

Given how successful this game was, and the number of times it’s been reduced to less than ten bucks over the years, a lot of people are going to be returning to the Continent to enjoy everything the game has to offer (getting their asses kicked by that group of Drowners almost immediately.)

However, as the remaster is set to include better ray tracing, new global lighting, subsurface scattering, a new shading model, ray reconstruction and much more, the system requirements have of course been bumped up. Let’s take a look at the how the new specs compare to the original ones.

Well, the Witcher 3 released all the way back in 2015, and if you’ve upgraded your PC once or twice since then you’ll probably be fine. The new requirements don’t quite bring this game right in line with the most demanding titles out there.

For example, The Witcher 3 Remastered recommends an RTX 2060 SUPER, which is a GPU from 2019. So, despite all the graphical additions in this version of the game, it’s not too tricky to run and if you have a gaming PC from 2019 onwards you are likely alright. One thing we absolutely would recommend for this game, however, is a controller. While the combat can be better with a mouse and keyboard, trying to control Roach is straight up not a good time (though the trailer for The Witcher 3 Remastered does specifically list “revamped mount handling” so there is some hope.)

It’s an Action RPG, meaning that you are free to level your character largely as you please. Additionally, for those only in it for the story and the exploration, you can choose to ignore the deeper mechanics like spells, oils, and even the signs (casual one-handed magic that’s essentially melee combat anyway.)

The game takes place on “the continent” which is pretty huge and inhabited by a few key factions all of which dislike each other to varying degrees. You end up having run-ins with all of them, and your actions can have significant impacts on the outcome of the political struggles in this world. which is where the true strength of this game lies. Small decisions can have harrowing and permanent knock-on consequences in this game which can be heart-breaking, and on occasion feel a little inconsistent, but those are a minority of cases.)
