Accelerator SSD Caching Drive Performance

By Jake Crimmins, on January 10, 2012

We all know SSDs are fast but are limited to smaller drive capacities. The Corsair Accelerator Series SSD Cache Drives allow you to get SSD performance while still having large hard drive like capacities. The Corsair Accelerator Series SSD Cache Drive is available in 30GB, 45GB, and 60GB. To test the performance I used the 60GB drive along with a Western Digital Green 1.5TB hard drive. The drives were plugged into a Gigbyte GA-Z68A-UD4P running a 2500K with 16GB of Vengeance Memory. After installing Windows I ran several benchmarks. After running the benchmarks I installed the Dataplex caching software. You can read the software install blog here.

One of the biggest differences you will see with the Accelerator caching is with Windows boot times. Boot times were recorded with boot racer which logs how long it takes to get into windows. I ran the boot racer program five times to get baseline score with the hard drive. Then after installing the caching software and rebooting several times to get the OS files onto the cache drive I reran boot racer another five times. The results are very impressive!

The next test I ran was PCMark Vantage Storage Suite. Again the numbers for the hard drive were recorded before the caching software was installed. The test was run three times on both the hard drive and the hard drive with the cache drive.

Crystal Disk Mark is a test that is commonly used by reviewers to test HDD or SSD performance. It runs several tests on reads and writes. Below you can see the improvement from the Accelerator SSD Cache.

ATTO Disk Benchmark is also another commonly used benchmark to test HDD and SSD performance. As you can see below write and read performance doubled!

Finally I used a stop watch to test performance opening up Photoshop CS5.5. As you can see again very impressive results!

The Corsair Accelerator Series SSD Cache made huge improvements in Windows boot times and other applications. Storage related benchmarks also showed a huge increase in performance as well. If you want SSD performance but still want large capacities without breaking the bank the Corsair Accelerator Series is right for you.
