What to look for in a PC cooling water block
Weigh the following features as you’re browsing for your water block.
- CPU or SSD compatibility: Look for compatibility with your specific CPU or your SSD form factor.
- Cooling compatibility: Also check to see which cooling components your water block is designed to work with.
- Design: Check for different colors, RGB lighting, and even LCD screens.
What is a water block in a CPU cooling system?
A CPU water cooling system, at its most basic level, is comprised of three main parts: the water block that holds liquid right next to the component you’re focused on cooling, the tubes that then carry that liquid to and from the water block, and the radiator fan array that cools things off and keeps the temperatures abated. As such, a water block is the key part of the system that actually serves to focus your cooling into a specific area. You can typically find water blocks for CPUs, GPUs, and SSDs—but it’s important to remember that they are not interchangeable. So be sure to look closely at the component you need to cool and match it to the water block you choose.
