SFX Power Supplies (PSUs)
A good small form-factor build needs a compact SFX PSU to power it, and CORSAIR has you covered. With SFX power supplies rated for up to 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency, you’re guaranteed a PSU as powerful and reliable as it is small.
What to look for in a SFX power supply unit
A lot of the same considerations for ATX PSUs are at play for SFX units as well.
- Size and space constraints: Does your build require the compactness of an SFX power supply?
- Continuous power: Be sure your SFX PSU is powerful enough for your components (measured in wattage).
- Connector compatibility: Check your PCIE and EPS connector needs.
- Efficiency ratings: Make sure your PSU rates well under the 80 Plus and Cybenetics standards.
- Modularity: Modular PSUs can help with cable management and clear up space.
What is an SFX power supply and is there a downside?
The “SF” in “SFX” denotes “Small Form Factor”, and as such, these power supplies tend to be much more compact and suited for smaller cases. In general, a high-quality SFX PSU will have comparable performance to a high-quality ATX PSU, but there are some things to consider.
For starters, even though CORSAIR’s power supplies are quite similar in price, sometimes SFX power supplies are a bit more expensive. It’s also important to consider the bracket mounting and included cables as SFX units tend to have smaller footprints and may not actually suit the needs of more expansive cases. In these situations, look for ATX adapter brackets and cable extenders to leverage SFX PSUs in ATX mounting areas.
