Does iCUE use WinRing0?

Last updated:

If you have been following along in the tech space, you will recently have heard some controversy regarding the driver called WinRing0. On the other hand, if you are landing on this article you likely already know what it is and just have one simple question: does CORSAIR iCUE use the WinRing0 driver? And will iCUE be affected by this driver being blocked by windows?

No, CORSAIR iCUE does not use WinRing0

Luckily, iCUE does not use this driver and is thus not affected by any present, or future issues.

What is WinRing0?

In short, WinRing0 is a very old driver that is to this date still used by some programs to control RGB lighting and fan control - again, iCUE does not use this driver.

Recently, Windows started banning this driver as it has access to kernel level operations and is therefore a potential risk to your system. WinRing0 enables programs to control hardware. This is because programs alone cannot control anything hardware related, they must go through a driver as the middle man to achieve this. WinRing0 is one of these drivers.
