If you are using CORSAIR memory with RGB lighting, you might have noticed a Windows service running named CORSAIR Device Control Service. This is a service that runs in Windows that lets iCUE hand over control of RGB lighting to third-party software.
If you want to see if it's running, you can open Task Manager.
When you have CORSAIR RGB memory you can either let iCUE handle control of the RGB lighting or use third-party software. The purpose of this service is to allow third-party software to control the RGB lighting of CORSAIR memory. This is handy if the RGB on your motherboard and fans is being controlled by a software from the motherboard, such as Asus Armoury Crate, or software from another motherboard manufacturer such as MSI, Gigabyte, etc. Here is a tutorial on how to control CORSAIR RGB memory lighting using Asus software.
The details of the Windows service.
In those situations, some people want to sync the RGB lighting between their devices, which is difficult to do if the there are two different software programs controlling the lighting. You would have the motherboard software controlling RGB for the motherboard and connected PWM fans, and then iCUE for your RGB memory.
Additionally, some games have a feature to hook into iCUE to control lighting when the game is running, but if you don’t like how this looks you can prevent it by disabling Game SDK effects in iCUE.
CORSAIR currently allows motherboard manufacturers to take over control of RGB lighting with their software, however, the amount of control that is possible is defined by the motherboard manufacture and not CORSAIR, so it depends on what those companies want to offer. The list of companies includes the usual suspects such as ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, and so forth, but you’ll have to check with your motherboard manufacturer to see what kind of functionality is offered.
Yes you can via plugins in iCUE. These plugins allow the hardware to communicate to iCUE though APIs and SDKs, which means you can control the RGB on your motherboard or GPU in CUE, or let a game take over RGB control for enhanced immersion.
