What to look for in a wired gaming headset
Take a look at the spec sheet for your headset, and weigh the following as you’re making your choice.
- Sound quality: First look at the frequency response, sensitivity, software processing (like Dolby), and other audio specs.
- Compatibility: Check if the headset works with your preferred platform. Do you need a gaming headset for PC, Xbox, PlayStation or something else?
- Microphone: Consider what kind of microphone you want and whether you need it to be detachable.
- Comfort: Ensure the ear pads and headset feel good for those long gaming sessions.
- Design: RGB LEDs, different colorways, and more let you express yourself.
- Other features and software: Check for active noise cancellation, software customization, multi-platform support, and more.
Is a wired headset better for gaming?
As with many gaming peripherals, when you use a wired headset, you take away virtually any possibility of delay or latency. While many wireless headsets from CORSAIR provide near instantaneous sound transfer, a wired headset is truly plug-and-play. It’s important to consider the port that it uses to connect, however. A standard 3.5-millimeter or quarter-inch jack means that the headphones are getting audio directly from your PC’s sound card or your desktop amp. If you opt for a wired USB headset, be sure that your device can support it and its firmware.
