What to look for in a 120mm AIO Liquid CPU Cooler
An all-in-one liquid cooling unit brings excellent functionality, but look closely at the specs as you’re browsing.
- Radiator size: Denoted by the millimeter measurement in the title, this size is how much space the radiator component will take up in your case’s fan array.
- Socket compatibility: AIO coolers are designed with specific CPU footprints in mind, so make sure yours is compatible.
- Design: Go for different coolers, RGB lighting (go for iCUE on CORSAIR), and even the option for an LCD screen.
Is a 120mm AIO cooler worth it, compared with larger options?
At 120 millimeters, this category of CPU hydro cooler is on the smaller side. All that means, though, is that the radiator component is a smaller footprint—containing just one radiator fan to help cool the liquid in the tubes. At first glance, you may assume that it’ll do a worse job than a larger cooler at keeping your CPU optimally running, but that isn’t necessarily the case. 120-millimeter AIO units are great if you’ve already got some case fans at play and just want a focused AIO option for your CPU. The rest of your slots could be used to keep air flowing more generally for your system. A 120mm AIO cooler may also be necessary if you’ve got a smaller case without a ton of room for fans and radiators. So while larger units can do a better job at dispelling heat specifically related to your CPU, it’s not the only variable in the fan/radiator equation.
