What to look for in a 1,000W+ power supply

Like with other power supply categories, you’ll want to consider a few key features as you’re browsing.

  • Power capacity: At 1,000W+ there’s not a lot you can throw at these units to stump them, but double check to make sure you’ll have enough juice.
  • Form factor: Check for the larger ATX or the smaller SFX configuration.
  • Connector compatibility: Check your PCIE and EPS connector needs.
  • Efficiency scores: Filter this page by Cybenetics and 80 Plus ratings.
  • Design: Choose from different shapes and colors to make your PSU match your machine.
  • Modularity: Do you want a modular, semi-modular or non-modular power supply?

Is it worth getting a 1000W+ power supply?

If you’re browsing the maximal category of 1,000W+ power supplies, then you’re probably prepared to build a truly power-hungry system. But how do you know if 1,000 watts or even more is necessary? The key here is to look closely at all of your different components. See what the manufacturers have spec’d each unit out to—from GPUs and CPUs to motherboards and more. It’s also important to make sure you aren’t maxing out what your PSU can handle. For instance, if your full PC component array requires around 750 watts at peak to run, then a 1000-watt PSU might be the best bet so there’s enough headroom.
